Pet Funeral Prayers.

I have been asked to suggest some pet funeral prayers, as many people plan a funeral service for a departed pet.

First I would like to encourage you to put words together yourself, as you will find, no matter how simple those words are, that they come from the heart. And after all it is the heart that matters.

Having said that, reading pet funeral prayers that others have used is always a good place to start and I have included some here for you to use.

Weep not for me though I am gone
Into that gentle night
Grieve if you will, but not for long
Upon my soul's sweet flight.
I am at peace, my soul's at rest
There is no need for tears.
For with your love I was so blessed
For all those many years.
There is no pain, I suffer not,
The fear now all is gone.
Put now these things out of your thoughts,
In your memory I live on.
Remember not my fight for breath
Remember not the strife
Please do not dwell upon my death,
But celebrate my life.

Here is another pet funeral prayer with a more religious tone. Although many prayers do have a religious background it is not essential. If you are not of a religious persuasion you can still say a prayer directly to your pet.

Heavenly Father, Creator of all things, thank you for having entrusted us with a loyal pet.
Thank you for letting him teach us unselfish love.
Thank you for the memories that we can recall to brighten our days for the rest of our lives.
Finally, in gratitude, we return our pet to you.
Amen.

Lord, make me an instrument of Thy Peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love.
Where there is injury, pardon.
Where there is doubt, faith.
Where there is despair, hope.
Where there is darkness, light.
Where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive.
It is in pardoning, that we are pardoned.
And it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.
